Since we started The Media Collective, over five years ago, we have tried to approach our work in the same way, no matter how large or small the job. Each project we take on is important to our customer and we recognise that. When there was just one or two people doing all the work this ideal was easy to maintain; party because we love all aspects of graphic design and the creative process but also because we were our own bosses, with no clumsy hierarchy or layers of policy to tire us out or get in the way. Policies kill trust
7th May, 2010Simple ideas
3rd May, 2010There are only really a couple of things at the core of what we do; we have ideas and we think about ways to communicate them. Pretty simple stuff really. And that’s why we don’t think design companies like ours need to be complicated, or pretentious. Our aim is to give you great design without making you feel like we have some special powers that you don’t have. (more…)
Writing good copy isn’t easy
22nd April, 2010Our customers often find that writing the copy for their brochure, website or other such marketing materials is often harder that it first seems. We thought it might be helpful to share some of our thoughts on how to approach writing your own content.
Know who you are writing to. This may seem obvious but if you can’t identify a group or groups of people who you want to be reading your words then there is a good chance that you will not write in a way that they understand. (more…)
Expanding to N. Ireland
8th September, 2009We have recently expanded. Andy has moved and is now working from the coastal town of Portstewart in N. Ireland. It is rather cold and wet but it does have a very nice beach and some excellent ice cream.
He will be carrying on working just the same (with his three screens) whilst picking up a few extra clients in N. Ireland as well. His long term goal is to establish a self-sufficient Media Collective office. If he can stay away from the beach.

New premises are in development
29th June, 2009We are very excited to be in phase one of establishing a new design and print production studio as we continue to grow out of our existing space. The new premises will give us much more space as well as better access to our increasing client base. It is our belief that the move to a larger, better situated space will be an important next step for us as a business, giving us the platform to increase our capacity in all areas.
Situated in Coleshill, at the crossroads of the M42 and the M6 the new offices will enjoy unbroken views of open countryside - the perfect place for inspiration, and a much easier place for everyone to get to! We are part way through the first phase and are hoping to move into our new building in early Autumn. Details of the exact location will be sent out as we head towards completion.
Colour
13th March, 2009At The Media Collective we’re encouraged to spend some time doing work unrelated to clients. Work that doesn’t pay the bills. But work that keeps us creative.
So as part of this I’ve created a little booklet about colour. Some of its reference, some of its inspirational and some of its experimental. There’s some great colour related quotes in there by some of the masters of colour.
Its by no means perfect, and its certainly not a comprehensive guide. So if you’ve got any wise words to share about colour then pop them in the comments.
Summer update
2nd October, 2008
We have just succesfully finished another busy summer period, having completed the design and installation of several large projects.
Sending our designers back to school
25th June, 2008Our business roadmap says that we want to be a company that is generous; both with our hard earned cash and with our time.
lovecov.com
5th June, 2008We have just helped launch a new website that we are really excited about: lovecov.com. The site has been launched as a springboard for a much more expansive philosophy and we will be helping to shape and develop this over the upcoming months and (hopefully) years. The site is aimed (as it’s name suggests) at the city of Coventry, and is supported by an ongoing marketing campaign, which includes billboards, beer mats in pubs, radio broadcasts and other initiatives, which we are also working on.
Although the site is for Coventry, the concept is for everywhere, so why not check it out. If you live in or near Coventry then sign up and get involved - it will be a great thing to be a part of. If you are not in Coventry then why not bring the philosophy to your home, workplace, college, town or city….
Competition winner
3rd March, 2008Congratulations to Hannah Rich from London, who sent in the winning idea for our re-brand competition. We liked the simplicity of the concept and thought that it showed a perfect progression of our existing brand. We will unveil it to the world just as soon as we have worked out how to apply it to all of our publicity and communication.
