The one day challenge
We're always trying to stay creative at The Media Collective. It benefits us and our clients. As part of this myself and Dan were given a one day challenge.
9.45am. The brief: Create something which explores The Media Collective's five areas of expertise: design, web, print, motion and signage. Anything goes, but is all has to be done by the end of the day.
10am. Individual bainstorming. We both got cracking and came up with a range of ideas. Some were possible and some were pie in the sky but it doesn't matter at this stage, everything is valid.
11.30am. Creative meeting. After discussing ideas including interactive flash games, posters, top trumps and loads of other stuff we thought it would be nice to represent each of the five areas as a character. This then developed into small paper puppets, making them more interactive and giving people the chance to download them and have some fun. We set to work developing ideas.
2pm. Short meeting. Looking for inspiration and establishing character traits for our business areas. Decided to be playful in our character interpretations. More work needed.
3pm. Development crit. We both presented the characters we had developed and brought Jez in to discuss the final solution. We had produced two different illustrated styles but we had no time left so the more complex characters were saved for another project. We now had to finish the characters, illustrate a background, produce everything and photograph it in use...
4pm. Test characters finished and printing. These were done to ensure they were the right size.
4.35pm. Backdrop illustrated and printed. Dan does the complex cutting by hand (sorry, no perforations). We then produced our five little characters and a backdrop too.
5pm. Everything finished, cut and tested. We set it up and take the photos.
