5 Top Tips to Enhance Your School Hall

Your school's main hall is a versatile space, hosting everything from PE lessons to Parents' Evenings. With such diversity, it can be challenging to decide how to best utilise it. Here are some of our top tips for how to enhance school halls using impactful displays

1 Be Bold.

Choose impactful, larger designs instead of cluttering the space with numerous small displays. Bold ideas and visuals make a stronger impression, especially in larger spaces. Below left: A bold PE-themed wall graphic at Newcroft Primary School grabs attention and serves as a focal point. Below right: Dyffryn Aman School in Wales features a new wall wrap in vibrant brand colours, boldly displaying the school's values and tying three walls together. The deliberate consideration of size and proportion ensures that the installations command attention and create a memorable visual experience for those who encounter them.

2 Keep it Simple.

While halls are spacious, overcrowding them with content can still be overwhelming. Focus on essential messages and use concise, easily readable text. Below, you can see an example of this. By strategically painting the wall in the school's distinctive brand colour and using a contrasting dark paint for the back of the stage area, we significantly enhance the visual impact of their brand and values. The sparing application of these graphics, carefully placed and thoughtfully designed, elevates their significance and reinforces the school’s commitment to excellence and identity within the school environment. We also helped declutter by replacing smaller photo and brand boards with larger banners.

3 Create a Focal Point.

Utilize natural focal points like stages or create one with branding or core messaging. This helps visitors orient themselves and understand the space quickly. If you don’t have a focal point then think about creating one. Below, you can witness the transformation from a recent project where we designed and installed a graphic mimicking a real stage for a school that wanted to create a focal point. Our creative approach ingeniously incorporates their values icons into the design, creating a captivating display that commands attention.

4 Use Your Values.

Utilising values as a theme for your school hall can be a powerful and meaningful approach to decorating and creating a welcoming environment. By prominently showcasing values through visual elements like wall art, posters, or interactive displays, you not only reinforce these principles among students and staff but also foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere. Incorporating values into the theme of your school hall serves as a daily reminder of the shared ideals and aspirations of the school community, inspiring everyone who enters to embody these principles in their actions and interactions. It can also be a fantastic way to celebrate achievements, showcase student work that aligns with these values, and instil a sense of pride and belonging among all stakeholders.

5 Make it Magical.

Transform your hall with themed displays to create immersive experiences. Whether it's a historical setting, showcasing local community achievements, or highlighting school values, a strong theme adds purpose and meaning.
